MUMBAI: Bollywood actor Tusshar Kapoor has allegedly received an extortion threat demanding ₹5 crore from a caller claiming to be Harry Boxer, an alleged member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Mumbai Police have launched an investigation into the threatening communication, with a preliminary voice analysis raising doubts about the caller’s identity.
According to information attributed to Mumbai Police sources, Kapoor informed the police after receiving the threat. The matter was subsequently handed over to the Anti-Extortion Cell and the Mumbai Crime Branch for investigation.
The caller reportedly introduced himself as Harry Boxer and demanded ₹5 crore from the actor. However, investigators have not established that the person behind the threat was actually connected to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The Crime Branch’s technical team examined the audio recording of the threatening communication and compared the caller’s voice with official audio samples of Harry Boxer available in its database. The preliminary comparison reportedly found no match, leading investigators to suspect that the caller may have impersonated a gang member to intimidate Kapoor and demand money.
Police are now attempting to identify the person responsible for the threatening communication and establish the origin of the recording.
Voice Analysis Raises Doubts Over Caller’s Identity
The preliminary technical examination has become a key part of the investigation. The Crime Branch compared the voice in the threatening audio with samples attributed to Harry Boxer, who has been identified by investigators as an alleged member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. According to police sources, the comparison did not establish a match between the two recordings. Investigators consequently suspect that an unidentified individual may have used the gang’s name to create fear and pressure the actor into paying the demanded amount.
The findings do not establish who made the call or whether the person had any connection with organised criminal activity. The identity of the caller remains under investigation. Police are examining the available audio recording and attempting to trace the person who sent it. The investigation is being handled by the Anti-Extortion Cell and the Crime Branch.
Police Investigate Threat as No FIR Is Reported
According to information attributed to police sources, no First Information Report (FIR) had been registered in the case as of November 3. Investigators are continuing efforts to identify the sender of the threatening audio and determine the circumstances surrounding the demand. The absence of an FIR does not establish that the alleged threat did not occur. It indicates that, according to the information currently available, the matter has not yet resulted in a formally registered criminal case.
The investigation also comes amid a series of reported threats and security incidents involving Bollywood personalities. However, investigators have not established a connection between the threat to Kapoor and any other incident. The police have not publicly confirmed the identity of the caller, whether the demand was communicated through a phone call or an audio message, or whether any money was paid. The investigation remains ongoing.
The case is being examined as an alleged extortion attempt, with investigators focusing on identifying the person behind the threatening communication and determining whether the caller falsely invoked the name of a criminal gang.
