MEERUT: The police have arrested Farhan, 22, a stalker of a 17-year-old minor girl who allegedly shot her dead in Uttar Pradeshs Meerut on January 22, after she resisted his advances. Farhan faces criminal charges in 8 other cases as well, including on the charge of attempted murder.
He was arrested after an encounter on Tuesday night, after he sustained bullet injuries in both his legs during the exchange of fire with the police team led by SHO, Falawda police station, Rajesh Kumar Kamboj, according to a report.
He allegedly shot dead the girl in his neighbourhood on Monday when she was on her way back to her home after buying medicines.
Farhan shot at her with a country-made weapon, as she resisted his advances, resulting in her death.
He was then found by cops, hiding in a neighbouring village. Seeing them, he had opened fire at the team and sustained bullet injuries in retaliatory firing. The police recovered a 315-bore pistol, an empty and a live cartridge from his possession.
The first case against Farhan was registered 6 years back - when he would have been just 16 years of age.
It was lodged in the Falawda police station itself. Eight cases under Sections 307/323/ 504/506/427/452/120b IPC and under the Arms Act have been lodged against him since then.
The girl, whose father was a labourer, was regularly stalked by Farhan. She herself used to work as a maid to assist her family financially.
Due to their background, the family did not dare to lodge a complaint against Farhan. However, the villagers had staged a protest with the minors body for over two hours on Monday night demanding an encounter of the accused and razing of his house.
After this, a case of murder was registered against Farhan and his father, Usman.
