TN Godavarman case: Supreme Court Hearing

Justice Aniruddha Bose: TN Godavarman case: We direct that each protected forest will have EAZ of 1 km. If EAZ is prescribed already which goes beyond 1 km buffer zone then such an extended boundary shall prevail.

SC: The Chief Conservator of forests of each state shall make a list of subsisting structures under the eaz and submit a report to this court within 3 months period. Mining within National wildlife sanctuary or national park cannot be permitted and thus will not be allowed.

SC: Such activities which are going on within the EAZ limit shall be carried on only with the permission of the Chief Conservator of Forests. No new permanent structure to come up within the EAZ for any purpose

SC: CEC shall compute compensation for unlawful mining  carried out in Jamuah Ramgarh wildlife sanctuary.

SC: There are overlapping issues between this case and Goa foundation. We request the CJI to list this case along with the 2 Goa foundation petitions and be listed before the same bench

Justice BR Gavai: So this was the last order from the bench led by Justice L Nageswara Rao
