NEW DELHI: The Union government has renamed the designation of Assistant Solicitor General of India, representing the Centre in High Courts, as Deputy Solicitor General of India.
The development has come to "avoid confusion" as both the Assistant Solicitor General of India and Additional Solicitor General of India are referred to 'ASG'.
A notification issued by the Law and Justice Ministry on September 13 stated it has been decided to re-designate 'Assistant Solicitor General of India as "Deputy Solicitor General of India", to remove confusion and doubt between Additional Solicitor General of India and Assistant Solicitor General of India, as both of them use same abbreviation 'ASG'.
"The abbreviation for the new designation "Deputy Solicitor General of India" would be "DSGI" and this should strictly be adhered to," it said.
