‘No hugs, group photos’: Bhopal draws up ground rules for Weddings

On Tuesday, 3 dec 2020, Ihe district administration in Madhya Pradesh released an advisory consisting of some set of rules to minimize the spread of COVID-19 due to weddings. The sole moto of the advisory was to make people aware about the precaution they could have to protect themselves from COVID-19.

The advisory stated and asked people to bless the couple from a distance and provide them with online gifts. Moreover it asked to avoid talking loud and laughing and also talking in groups and moreover avoid contacts like handshake and hugs and try to maintain six feet distance. These are some of the ground rules of the advisory issued by Bhopal District collector Avinash Lavania depicting measures which could minimize the risk of COVID-19 spread.

The advisory further said that there are some customs like singing and dancing in marriage with relatives and friends. In such a situation it is advised to not use the same microphone. People should not take out their masks for group photos and selfies. Return gifts which are being offered should be packed and distributed by a particular person. The gifts should be kept at a particular place where guests could lift their gift. ‘Shagun’ Gifts given by guests to wedding couple should be electronic and by any chance if it is not possible then gifts should be delivered at particular places and Gifts should be opened by family after certain no. of days.

Venue should be airy and open for the ceremony and there should be proper arrangements for washing hands and sanitization. COVID-19 guidelines should be displayed at the venue at various points. Covers of sofa and chair should be changed at regular basis and should be disinfected at the same time. The wedding should be shown live on internet and on screens at the venue to ensure that people won’t crowd at any corner of the area.
