Breaking: No Cultural Events, No Gatherings for Christmas, New Year celebrations in Delhi amid Omicron fear [READ ORDER]

No Gatherings for Christmas, New Year celebrations

All DMs and District DCPs shall ensure that no cultural event/gatherings/congregation/take place for celebrating Christmas or New Year in NCT of Delhi, DDMA said.

The Omicron variant of coronavirus spreading rapidly across the country. On Wednesday, the Delhi government announced a prohibition. It is on the cultural events, gatherings or congregations of the upcoming festival of Christmas and New Year.

"All DMs and District DCPs shall ensure that no cultural event/gatherings/congregation/take place for celebrating Christmas or New Year in NCT of Delhi," reads an order issued by Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA).

DDMA directed district magistrates to identify potential COVID-19 super-spreader areas in Delhi amid the Omicron scare and take all required measures in their respective jurisdictions to control the spread.

"All District Magistrates shall conduct an intensive survey of the entire area falling within their jurisdiction and identify those pockets, colonies, markets, slum areas, crowded places etc. Which have the potential of becoming super-spreader or hotspots of COVID-19 virus and Omicron variant". - The order reads.

The district magistrates and deputy commissioners of police (DCPs) have also been directed to tighten the enforcement machinery to ensure that people follow social-distancing norms and wear masks.

The DDMA also stated that all DMs and DCPs shall deploy a sufficient number of enforcement teams on the field for keeping utmost vigil at public places. It is to enforce strict adherence to COVID-appropriate behaviour to avoid any possible surge in COVID-19 cases.

So far, India has recorded 213 cases of the Omicron variant of coronavirus across 15 states and UTs of which 90 people have recovered or migrated, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Wednesday.

Delhi has recorded a maximum of 57 cases. Followed by Maharashtra at 54, Telangana at 24, Karnataka at 19, Rajasthan at 18, Kerala at 15 and Gujarat 14.
