Delhi High Court issues COVID-19 Advisory to the Delhi Govt. in wake of the rising number of cases

The Delhi HC directed the AAP Govt to 'focus on testing and tracing' to deal with the COVID-19 infections numbers in the national capital.' The High Court further said that the time to declare results should be brought down to within 24 hours from 48 hours or more even now.

Amid the rising impact of Covid-19 in Delhi, the Aam Aadmi Party-led government in Delhi has informed the Delhi High Court that, for now, no night curfew would be imposed in the national capital, or parts of it, in view of the COVID-19 situation.

Earlier the bench of Justice Hima Kohli and Subromonium Prasad directed the Arvind Kejriwal dispensation to "immediately" decide on night curfew in Delhi, and implement it without delay. After a week Government's submitted the response to the Courts query.

The Delhi government has taken a considerate view, after assessing the Covid-19 situation, to not introduce restrictions on movement at night, read the status report submitted before the court.

The High Court was informed by the Delhi Government that "The Delhi Government has been taking all necessary measures, as required and demanded, by the ever-changing circumstances and (remains) committed to making every effort to arrest the spread of COVID-19 in the national capital".

Many states, including Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat, implemented night curfews for varying periods to check the spread of the highly contagious novel coronavirus.

The bench suggested that the time to declare results should be brought down to within 24 hours from 48 hours or more even now.

The bench further added that the labs can message the results to people on their mobile numbers, which are taken at time of sample collection, and it can be put up on the websites later.

Recently in the Supreme Court, after being accused by the centre of "taking no effective steps to curb the spread of COVID-19", the Delhi government presented statistics to show its "consistent efforts" that led to a "declining trend" in the spread of COVID-19 infections since last week.

Delhi's COVID-19 tally stands at 5.7 lakh with 9,342 deaths. It is among the worst-hit states in India, which has reported more than 95.3 lakh Covid cases and 1.3 lakh related deaths.

The directions and suggestions by the bench of Delhi Court came while hearing of a PIL by advocate Rakesh Malhotra seeking increase in the COVID-19 testing numbers in the national capital and getting speedy results.
