A Division Bench of the Madras High Court comprising of Justices S Vaidyanathan and PT Asha on Sunday (December 22, 2019) declined to give an order staying DMKs rally against CAA. The police had denied permission for the rally because organizers refused to take responsibility of any riots or violent incidents breaking out during the course of the peace march.

Some prominent leaders taking part in the rally are DMK President, MK Stalin, VCK Chief Thol Thirumavalavan, Congress Minister P Chidambaram and MDMK Chief Vaiko.

A petition was listed for hearing late Sunday night before the Madras High Court filed by petitioners R Varaaki and R Krishnamoorthy seeking orders to restrain DMK from organizing the rally.

According to Times of India, DMK President Stalin expressed gratitude towards the participants of the rally saying that, I bow my head for making the rally a success. We must not stop till the Centre withdraws the CAA. A massive protest against the Modi government will be announced after consultation with alliance partners.

Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK), Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), and other small parties are supporting the rally as DMKs allies.
