Former CJI Ranjan Gogoi is scheduled to take oath as Rajya Sabha Member tomorrow, that is, March 19, 2020 at 11am.
The President of India on Monday (March 16, 2020) had nominated Justice Ranjan Gogoi to Rajya Sabha as a nominated member.
Justice Gogoi has been nominated to fill the vacancy as Senior Advocate K.T.S. Tulsi retired recently from the Upper House.
Justice Gogoi will join the Club of other nominated members in the Rajya Sabha, namely, Swapan Dasgupta, Dr. Subramanian Swamy, Dr. Narendra Jadhav , Suresh Gopi, Mrs. MangteChungneijang Mary Kom, SambhajirajeChhatrapati, Roopa Ganguly, Ram Shakal , Rakesh Sinha, Dr.SonalMansingh and Raghunath Mohapatra.

Interestingly, on March 18, 2020, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed by Madhu Purnima Kishwar (professor at the Indian Council of Social Science Research) in the Supreme Court challenging the nomination of former CJI Ranjan Gogoi as a member of the Rajya Sabha.
The 20-page petition has been filed in independent capacity and has not been drawn or filed through any advocate.
