Central Government Appoints Judges for Bombay and Karnataka HC

In recent news about the appointment of judges, the Central Government via notification dated January 2, 2020 made way for additional judges for the Bombay and Karnataka High Courts. An alert for the same was sent out. Advocate Madhav Jayajirao Jamdar is one of the five judges amongst Avinash G Gharote, NB Suryawanshi, Madhav Jamdar, Anil KilorandMilind Narendra Jadhavrecommended by the collegium for the Bombay High Court.

The collegium settled to approve the names for advancement only post turning to colleagues associated with the matters of the court along with communication related to material on record and counting in input from other various sources.

A notification released on January 2, 2019 stated that according to Article 224 of the Indian Constitution the president appoints Shri Madhav Jayajirao Jamdar to remain an Additional Judge for the Bombay High Court for a duration of two years from the date of assuming office. The appointment is in accordance with the endorsement of the Supreme Court Collegium.

Alongside the Bombay High Court appointment for judges, Karnataka also got five appointments for additional judges from the central government. The collegium recommended these five names on December 17, 2019. 

The five additional judges are- Justice Dixit Krishna Shripad,Justice Shankar Ganapathi Pandit,Justice Ramakrishna Devdas,Justice Bhotanhosur Mallikarjuna Shyam PrasadandJustice Siddappa Sunil Dutt Yadav. At present the Karnataka High Court has current running capacity of 48 judges as opposed to an official permission for a total of 62 judges.
