NEW DELHI: Justice Krishnan Vinod Chandran was on Thursday sworn in as a judge of the Supreme Court.
In a ceremony, Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna administered the oath of office to Justice Chandran.

On January 13, 2025, the Central Government has notified his appointment on the basis of a recommendation made by the Supreme Court Collegium on January 7, 2025.
Supreme Court Strengthens Bench with Justice Chandran’s Appointment
Justice Chandran, hailing from the Kerala High Court, was unanimously picked up for elevation. He was then the Chief Justice of Patna High Court.
He served as a judge of the High Court for more than 11 years and as the Chief Justice of Patna High Court for more than a year.
Justice Chandran was appointed as a judge of the Kerala High Court on November 8, 2011 and was elevated as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Judicature at Patna on March 29, 2023 and has been functioning as the Chief Justice of that High Court since then.
Justice Chandran stood at serial number 13 in the combined all-India seniority of High Court judges. In the seniority of judges hailing from the High Court of Kerala, he stood at number one.
His appointment comes after Justice C T Ravikumar who belonged to the Kerala High Court superannuated on January 5, 2025.
After Justice Chandran assumed the office, the total number of judges in the Supreme Court rose to 33 as against the sanctioned number of 34 judges, including the Chief Justice of India.
