On June 6th, 2018, the Election Commission of India has launched its RTI Portal which will facilitate general public to find the information under the Right to Information Act (RTI Act).

The portal was inaugurated by Chief Election Commissioner OP Rawat, Election Commissioners Sunil Arora and Ashok Lavasa.

This portal can be accessed through https://rti.eci.nic.in/ . Fees under the RTI Act can also be paid through the online payment gateway on the site. The portal also facilitates an online reply to applications and also for making first appeal and reply thereto. The ECI will send notification alerts to RTI applicants via SMS and e-mail.

Earlier, RTI applications were made on the portal of Department of Personnel & Training (DOPT) which are downloaded and all the applications barring a few have been disposed of by giving suitable replies to the applicants. With the new portal it's more user-friendly.

To Login to the portal a user needs a mobile number or email id, after entering the number they will be asked to enter the captcha code. If there is any error in the number or email id they will get the error message on the screen, if not, then the applicant will be sent an OTP to the provided Mobile Number/Email ID which then has to be entered on the site to log in to the ECI RTI Portal.
