[COVID-19]: Police Services Extended In Punjab Till 31st May; No Police Retirement For Now

Police Services Extended In Punjab

In order to control the law and order situation in the state amid the pandemic, the Punjab government has reportedly granted extension in order to continue the police services till 31st May, 2020. As reported on 3rd April, 2020, many police officials were set to retire before the given date. 

The additional chief secretary of home affairs in Punjab, Satish Chandra said, “As a one-time measure, uniformed personnel of police and Punjab home guards working with the government of Punjab shall continue to work irrespective of their date of retirement till May 31.”

These orders will apply to the officers whose retirement orders were issued. The orders were issued by the Punjab Chief Minister, Captain Amarinder Singh. 

Further to which, concern about the welfare of the police force was expressed regarding the continuous service performed by them. The chief minister has directed the mobilization of maximum police force through withdrawal from security duties. This would be based on evaluation of the scenarios. The complete ensuring of protection and provision for the homeless and migrant labourers stranded in Punjab has to be administered by the Police and civil bodies.

The chief minister has continued to reach out to the doctors, police and officials working in the field and have been assuring them pertaining to the government's full support in their war against the crisis.
