Under Construction Bridge Falls Over People In Varanasi

By LawStreet News Network      16 May, 2018 07:21 PM      0 Comments

In Varanasi, a shocking incident has shaken the city in which an under construction bridge collapsed near Varanasi Cantt railway station. Local police and NDRF teams reached the accident area to initiate the rescue operation for those who got stuck under the debris.

As per the report, at least 18 people have lost their lives after being buried, and more than 50 people got trapped under the debris of fallen bridge. At least half dozen vehicles including a UP roadways bus also got trapped and crushed under it. A stampede-like situation erupted at the crowded area near the railway station.

The bridge was being constructed by Uttar Pradesh State Bridge Cooperation and was scheduled to be inaugurated last December.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has left to visit the place of the accident and also would meet the victims at the hospital. CM has announced a compensation of five lakh for the kin of those killed and two lakh compensation for the injured person.

Given the seriousness of the accident, an instant probe by Crime Branch should be initiated in this incident. As this is not an accidental but a clear case of irresponsibility and negligence by the authorities concerned. The higher authorities should take stern action against all those who are responsible for this heinous act so that such horrendous incident shall not repeat in the future.
