New Delhi: Nidhi Tewari, an Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, has been appointed as the Private Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a role that highlights her distinguished career in diplomacy and security affairs. The appointment, announced by the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) in an official order, was approved by the Cabinet’s Appointments Committee.
Tewari, who secured the 96th rank in the Civil Services Examination in 2013, hails from Mehmurganj in Varanasi. Before joining the PMO, she worked as an Assistant Commissioner (Commercial Tax) in Varanasi while preparing for the Civil Services exam. After clearing the exam, she joined the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), where she served in the Disarmament and International Security Affairs Division, contributing to India’s foreign policy and security matters.
Nidhi Tewari’s Career Journey and Key Roles
In 2022, Tewari joined the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) as an Under Secretary and was later promoted to Deputy Secretary in January 2023. At the PMO, she worked in the ‘Foreign and Security’ division, focusing on critical areas like External Affairs, Atomic Energy, and Security Affairs, particularly overseeing matters related to the state of Rajasthan. She reported directly to National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.
Nidhi Tewari’s appointment as PM Modi’s Private Secretary is a testament to her exceptional skills and dedication. As per her new role, she will be receiving a salary of ₹1,44,200 per month under Pay Matrix Level-14, with additional allowances, bringing her total monthly compensation to approximately ₹2 lakh.
Her Strong Connection to Varanasi and PM Modi’s Constituency
Tewari has a longstanding connection with PM Modi’s Lok Sabha constituency in Varanasi, which she has been associated with since the 2014 elections. Her journey, marked by perseverance and strategic expertise, makes her a key asset in the Prime Minister’s team as she continues to contribute to national security and foreign affairs.
