'Why tarnish nation's image by insulting our vibrant democracy, robust Judiciary,' Rijiju attacks Cong

NEW DELHI: Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju on Friday attacked the Congress for seeking foreign intervention on the judicial process of conviction and sentence of two years pronounced against Rahul Gandhi in a defamation case, saying even during Emergency in 1975, nobody sought external help.

"When Indian democracy was truly murdered in 1975 by the Congress Party, no one went around crying in foreign land to seek foreign power intervention. Indian people fought and restored democracy because democracy lives in the minds and souls of Indians," he tweeted.

Indian democracy was once murdered in 1975 and this would never happen again. India would never tolerate foreign intervention because due to our Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he added.

"For 1000 of years India was defeated, occupied, looted & ruled by the invaders not because India was weak but there was always a Jaichand in every foreign invasion," he added.

The Minister said questions can be put to all elected governments.

"Let's discuss & debate on all issues. But don't abuse Indian democracy & Indian Institutions. Congress Party is angry with the people of India but why tarnishing our nation's image by insulting our vibrant democracy & it's robust Judiciary," he said.

Responding to a tweet by senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh extending his thanks to Germany's Foreign Affairs Ministry for "taking note of how democracy is being compromised here", Rijiju said, "Thank you Rahul Gandhi for inviting foreign powers for interference into Indias internal matters."

"Remember, Indian Judiciary can't be influenced by foreign interference.  India won't tolerate 'foreign influence' anymore because our Prime Minister is Narendra Modi," he added.
