The first charter flight under 'Operation Ajay' brought 212 Indian nationals from war-torn Israel and landed at Delhi Airport on Friday morning. The flight carried 211 adults and one infant.
Union Minister Rajeev Chandrashekar was present at the airport to welcome the Indian nationals arriving from Israel.
This operation was initiated in response to the multi-pronged attacks against Israel by Hamas from Gaza since Saturday, followed by Israeli retaliation, which has resulted in the tragic loss of over 2,500 lives. Israel has launched a substantial counter-offensive in Gaza in response to these attacks by Hamas.
On Wednesday, Jaishankar announced the launch of 'Operation Ajay' to facilitate the return of Indian citizens who desire to come back home.
"Launching #OperationAjay to assist the return of our citizens from Israel who wish to come back. Special charter flights and other arrangements are being put in place," Jaishankar wrote. "We are fully committed to the safety and well-being of our nationals abroad," he added.
