Washington DC: In a historic night for digital fundraising, supporters of US Vice President Kamala Harris shattered Zoom attendance records, raising over $2 million in less than 90 minutes. Over 164,000 participants joined the unprecedented event, titled “White Women: Answer the Call,” marking the largest Zoom meeting ever recorded.
Despite some technical glitches, the enthusiasm was palpable as popular celebrities like Pink and Connie Britton lent their support. The magnitude of the call led many attendees to switch to a YouTube livestream to keep up with the action.
The Zoom event rallied women nationwide, encouraging them to join the chat and invite their contacts to back Harris. This wave of support came after President Joe Biden endorsed Harris, stepping down from the presidential race against Republican Donald Trump.
One attendee, Erin Gallagher, captured the excitement, saying, “We weren’t kidding when we said we broke Zoom.” On X, another user highlighted the event’s impact, tweeting, “Zoom just broke a record… It’s the largest Zoom call in the company’s history. They are literally raising $20,000 per minute. Pop-star ‘Pink’ just spoke from her plane! It’s incredible! No wonder Trump is freaking out!”
Connie Britton, famous for her role in ‘Friday Night Lights,’ expressed her delight over the overwhelming endorsement for Harris. “When Joe Biden stepped down and endorsed Kamala Harris, the world blew up. It was seismic, cosmic, even,” she remarked.
The event was kicked off with a $500,000 pledge from comedian Carol Leif, while Pink emphasized the crucial role of women’s voices in politics. This was the third massive Zoom call for Harris, following successful events with 44,000 Black women and 50,000 Black men, which raised $1.5 million and $1.3 million, respectively.
As Kamala Harris continues to solidify her position as the Democratic nominee, the energy and support from these record-breaking events signal a powerful momentum in her campaign.
