New Delhi: The Vidhii Setu Foundation (VSF) has submitted a formal urgent representation to the United Nations regarding the alleged lynching of a Hindu worker in Bangladesh, calling for immediate international intervention.
The Foundation physically submitted the dossier on December 22, 2025, at the UN Information Centre in New Delhi, addressed to Ms. Nazila Ghanea, the UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion or Belief.
The representation concerns the killing of Shri Dipu Chandra Das in Mymensingh, Bangladesh, on the night of December 18–19, 2025. According to VSF’s submission, following an accusation of blasphemy, the victim was allegedly beaten, bound to a tree, and set on fire. The Foundation has termed the incident as “state-enabled barbarism” and described the accusation of blasphemy as a “standard pretext for ethnic cleansing.”
In its communication to the UN, VSF accused the United Nations of becoming a “mute spectator” while the Hindu minority in Bangladesh faces what it described as existential threats. The representation argues that the community is effectively “trapped in a slaughterhouse,” with no functioning democracy to protect them. The Foundation asserted that the victim was targeted not for any crime, but for his religious identity.
VSF has demanded the immediate deployment of a Category-1 Urgent Appeal and an Emergency Fact-Finding Mission to Mymensingh to investigate the alleged persecution. The Foundation warned that continued international inaction may force India to shift its diplomatic posture, stating that “the world must not mistake India’s restraint for weakness.”
The representation explicitly warned that if the UN fails to act, Indian civil society will advocate for the Government of India to abandon diplomatic restraint and exercise “all available options—diplomatic, economic, strategic, and unlisted—to subjugate the hostile elements threatening our kin.”
Addressing the Hindu community, Adv. Abhijeet K. Bhatt, Director of VSF, stated that the Foundation is dedicated to the protection of fundamental rights related to freedom of religion and conscience. He emphasized that VSF will not remain silent and will stand as a shield for Hindus against what it describes as systemic abuse, exploitation, and persecution.
The Foundation demanded a global press statement from either the Special Rapporteur or the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. VSF warned that if the UN fails to act and the region escalates, “the burden of history will lie with your office.”
Copies of the representation have been dispatched to the International Criminal Court at The Hague, the Prime Minister’s Office, and the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.
