Woman Arrested for Drowning Dog in Airport Restroom After Airline Refuses Pet on Flight

Louisiana: A 57-year-old woman in the U.S. has been taken into custody for allegedly drowning her dog in an airport restroom after being informed she could not bring the animal on her flight. The incident took place on December 16, 2024, at Orlando International Airport, where authorities were alerted to the discovery of a deceased dog in a women’s restroom before the security screening area.

Florida Woman Arrested for Drowning Dog After Airline Denies Pet Boarding

Following an investigation, police identified Alison Agatha Lawrence as the suspect. She was arrested on March 18, 2025, and charged with aggravated animal cruelty, a third-degree felony. Reports indicate that Lawrence had planned to fly to Colombia with her dog, Tywinn, but was denied boarding due to missing documentation required for the pet’s travel.

After receiving this information, Lawrence allegedly took the dog into a restroom, drowned it in a toilet, and disposed of its body in a trash bin before proceeding toward security. The animal’s remains were later found by airport cleaning staff, who then reported the incident to authorities.

Law enforcement issued a warrant for her arrest after concluding their investigation. Nearly three months later, she was detained and later released on a $5,000 bond, according to official records.

The incident triggered widespread outrage on social media, with many expressing shock and condemnation. It also renewed discussions about animal protection laws. Florida State Senator Tom Leek referenced Senate Bill 502, a proposed measure aimed at strengthening penalties for animal cruelty.

Commenting on the case, Leek stated, “This is yet another horrible example of why I filed Senate Bill 502 related to animal cruelty, which strengthens criminal penalties for those who do harm to innocent animals.” He further emphasized his commitment to ensuring the bill passes through the Florida Senate and House of Representatives before reaching Governor Ron DeSantis for approval.

Neighbors of Lawrence mentioned that they recalled her owning a white poodle, though they were unaware of the incident at the time. Meanwhile, her sister stated that she had no knowledge of the allegations or Lawrence’s whereabouts, adding that she did not have a phone.
