Allahabad High Court Junks PIL to include the Bhagavad Gita as a Subject in Schools

A public interest petition requesting the court to order the Uttar Pradesh government and its education authorities to teach "Bhagavad Gita" as one of the subjects to students of all classes in the general interest of society has been rejected by the Lucknow Bench of Allahabad HC.

Dismissing the PIL filed by one Brahma Shanker Shashtri, Justice Pankaj Mithal and Justice Saurabh Lavania's division bench, noted that the plea is "absolutely vague and misconceived".

However when dismissing the PIL, the court claimed that if the petitioner wanted 'Bhagavad Gita' to be included as one of the subjects in the intermediate syllabus, he might contact the appropriate authority, such as the High School and Intermediate Education Board, Uttar Pradesh or any other board or university concerned, which he considered appropriate to include it as a subject or as a subject.
