New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's aide, Bibhav Kumar, has approached the Delhi High Court, contesting his arrest in the Swati Maliwal assault case.
Kumar seeks compensation for what he claims was his "illegal arrest."
He has requested the High Court to declare his arrest unlawful, arguing it violated the Supreme Court's guidelines set forth in the Arnesh Kumar judgment.
Previously, on May 27, Kumar was denied bail by Delhi's Tis Hazari Court.
The Delhi Police arrested Kumar on May 18, subsequently placing him in police custody for five days. On May 24, he was transferred to judicial custody.
Swati Maliwal, a Rajya Sabha MP from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), alleges that Kumar assaulted her at Kejriwal's residence.
According to the FIR, Kumar allegedly struck Maliwal in the chest, stomach, and pelvic area with his legs.
AAP has refuted these allegations.
Additionally, videos have emerged on social media showing Maliwal arguing with security personnel and leaving the Chief Minister's residence on the day the alleged assault occurred.
