Congress Leader Jairam Ramesh filed a petition in the Supreme Court today (December 13, 2019) challenging the validity of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 alleging that it violates the fundamental right to equality (mentioned in Article 14 of the Constitution of India) by not granting the opportunity for obtaining citizenship to persecuted Muslims from neighboring countries.
