Court seeks action taken report from Delhi police on complaint against Kerala CPI(M) MLA [Read Order]

NEW DELHI: A Delhi Court has sought an Action Taken Report (ATR) from SHO Tilak Marg Police Station here on a criminal complaint filed against KT Jaleel, MLA, Kerala CPI (M) for registration of an FIR and criminal action for sedition.

Supreme Court advocate G S Mani has filed a criminal complaint against the legislator in the court.

The plea came up for consideration before Harjeet Singh Jaspal, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Rouse Avenue Court, New Delhi on August 29.

Advocate Mani, appearing as complainant in person, argued that he has lodged a police complaint with SHO Tilak Marg Police Station & Commissioner of Police Delhi on August 13, 2022 and thereafter on August 18, 2022 with DCP New Delhi against Jaleel.

The MLA, he claimed, has posted a controversial Facebook post describing Pakistan occupied Kashmir as Azad Kashmir and that the people living in the territory of Jammu and Kashmir have forgotten to laugh and they are not happy.

He submitted, he asked the SHO Tilak Marg  police station to register FIR and take criminal action based on his complaints

However, since Delhi Police have not registered the FIR, a private complaint under Section 156(3) r/w 190 CrPC was filed, seeking a direction for registration of the criminal case, he said.

After hearing the argument, the court sought the Action Taken Report from police and fixed the matter for consideration on September 6.
