COVID warrior death- Delhi High Court issues notice on plea seeking ex-gratia payment of Rs. 50 Lakhs and 1 Crore under Government schemes [READ ORDER]

A plea has been filed in the Delhi HC seeking ex gratia payment of rupees 50 Lakhs and 1 Crore. Rs. 50 Lakhs is being demanded under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana (PMGKY), scheme for healthcare workers contributing in curbing the covid-19 situation of our country and Rs. 1 crore under the scheme of GNCTD (The Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi).

The Bench headed by Justice Prathiba M. Singh heard he plea filed by Sangeeta Wahi who had lost her husband, who was appointed by the Government to be an essential guard at the OPD, Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi. 

The petitioner stated in her plea that she is entitled to ex gratia payment scheme under the GNCTD for COVID warriors/ family of the warrior performing covid duty who have died due to the unfortunate circumstances of COVID-19.

Mrs. Sangeeta Wahi stated that she was not happy with the response she received when she approached the Public Grievance Cell and the other concerned authorities, and therefore she has decided to move to the Delhi HC. 

Further, she sought ex gratia payment of Rs.50 lakhs, under the PMGKY and Rs. 1 crore , under the GNCTD.

The matter has been listed for hearing on July 6th, 2021.
