New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has agreed to hear a public interest litigation (PIL) seeking the development and enforcement of guidelines to ensure the safe use of firecrackers and prevent ocular injuries. However, the court allowed the petitioner to amend the plea to include other potential injuries.
Delhi High Court Grants Two Weeks for Amended PIL on Firecracker Safety Guidelines
A bench comprising Chief Justice Devendra Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela observed that the misuse of firecrackers could result not only in eye injuries but also harm to other body parts and even animals.
The court stated that it is inclined to entertain the PIL to address not just ocular injuries but other possible injuries as well. It permitted the petitioner to amend the petition accordingly.
Firecracker Misuse: Court Allows Petition to Include Injuries Beyond Ocular Damage
The petitioner has been granted two weeks to file the amended plea, with the next hearing scheduled for April 9.
