NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court has agreed to examine on October 31 a plea by former Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy, contending that the Centre had failed to ensure security arrangements at his private residence, despite the assurance.
The HC had on September 14 directed Swamy, who continued to be a Z-category protectee, to vacate his government accommodation allotted in 2016, in six weeks.
Senior advocate Jayant Mehta on behalf of Swamy mentioned the matter on Thursday before a division bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramonium Prasad, who listed the matter for hearing October 31.
Mehta submitted that Swamy had agreed to vacate the government accommodation by October 26 and the Centre had given an assurance that he will be provided with security arrangements at his private residence. However, no such arrangement had been made till date.
Last month, Justice Yashwant Varma had said the allotment had been made for five years and that no material has been shown to indicate that a government accommodation has to be provided to all those with Z-category security.
Though Swamy's tenure as MP ended in April this year, he continued to remain a protected person with Z-category security.
The government had earlier said Swamy can be provided with Z-category security at his "palatial house" in Nizamuddin East.
