New Delhi: In an unprecedented move, the Delhi High Court has issued a criminal contempt of court notice to Advocate Sanjeev Kumar for making contemptuous comments during a virtual hearing.
A Division Bench comprising Justices Suresh Kumar Kait and Manoj Jain took suo motu cognizance of the comments posted by Kumar in the chat box of the video conference.
One of the comments read, "But this court is slow to hear my cases, Jo darta hai, wo kabhi justice nhi kar payega," which translates to "One who is afraid can never deliver justice."
The court expressed serious concern over the derogatory remarks made by Kumar, stating that such behavior undermines the dignity and authority of the judiciary.
Consequently, the Bench has ordered Advocate Sanjeev Kumar to show cause as to why contempt of court proceedings should not be initiated against him.
The issuance of this notice marks a significant step by the judiciary in maintaining decorum and respect during virtual hearings, which have become a norm in the post-pandemic era. The court's order underscores the importance of upholding the sanctity of judicial proceedings, irrespective of the medium through which they are conducted.
Advocate Sanjeev Kumar is expected to respond to the notice in the coming days, with the legal fraternity closely watching the developments in this case.
