Delhi High Court Appoints Solicitor General Tushar Mehta To Represent The Delhi Police

Delhi High Court Solicitor General Tushar Mehta Delhi Police

In a letter drafted on 25th February 2020, the appointment of Solicitor General, Tushar Mehta, Additional Solicitor General, Maninder Kaur Acharya and Advocates Amit Mahajan and Rajat Nair has been notified in order to represent the Delhi Police before the Delhi High Court in the petition that relates to the recent violence being inflicted in the Capital state of India.

The representation comes in the matter of Harsh Mandee & Anr v. GNCT of Delhi & Ors.

SG Tushar Mehta's submission came before the division bench comprising of Justices S Muralidhar and Talwant Singh during the hearing of the plea that sought the lodging of FIRs and arrests of people involved in the recent violence inflicted in parts of northeast Delhi over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

While arguing the matter before the bench on 26th February 2020, Mehta had taken a strong objection to this submission and further said that the court was hearing a Public Interest Litigation and reportedly accused the petitioner of selective outrage that was concluded on the basis of video clips of three specific individuals.

Mehta also shot back at Senior Advocate Colin Gonsalves' argument and said, "Police are not having picnic, they are facing acid attacks."
