Delhi Pollution: SC Pulls Up Centre, Directs It To Explore Japanese Technology To Combat Air Pollution

The Supreme Court today (November 13, 2019) criticised the Centre over inaction in tackling the deteriorating air quality in Delhi and directed it to find a solution to the problem of air pollution.

A Bench of Chief Justice of IndiaRanjan Gogoi and JusticeS.A. Bobde slamming the Centre said that "In our view, little constructive efforts have been made by the government and other stakeholders to find a solution to the problem."

During the hearing, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta submitted before the Court that the Central government is exploring various technology, including hydrogen-based technology adopted by Japan, to tackle the issue.

Considering the submission, the Court directed the Centre to review the technology and submit a report about its outcome on December 3, 2019.

An AQI between 201 and 300 is 'poor', 301-400 'very poor' and 401-500 'severe' while the AQI above 500 falls in the severe plus category.
