Fodder Scam Update: RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Appears Before Special CBI Court

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) head Lalu Prasad Yadav appeared before a CBI court in Ranchi to record his statement regarding the fodder scam case on January 16, 2020. Lalu Prasad was brought to the CBI court from the paying ward of Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS), Ranchi. He was produced before special CBI court of S.K. Shashi.

His statement will be recorded in the fodder scam case regarding the deceitful withdrawal of Rs 139 crores from the Doranda treasury of Ranchi.

Party MLA and close assistant Bhola Yadav helped Lalu Prasad on his way to the court. Prasad has told sources that he has to record his statement in response to 3 set of questions. The fodder scam is related to the fraudulent withdrawal of public money meant for cattle fodder from different government funds in undivided Bihar during the 1990s amounting to Rs. 950 crores. The CBI had filed around 53 cases in relation to the scam. 

Lalu Prasad has been convicted in 4 of these cases and has been awarded jail sentence up to 14 years. Lalu Prasad is accused in six cases in the fodder scam. Of the five cases in Jharkhand, he has been convicted in four. The trial in the fifth case is underway in the CBI court of Ranchi. There are a total number of 111 accused in the Doranda treasury case and statements of 107 have been recorded so far.
