Functioning of Delhi High Court And District Courts Suspended Until 31 July [READ ORDER]

In view of the extension of the national lockdown, the Delhi High Court agreed to proceed with the new system of restricted functioning. 

According to the decision of the Delhi High Court Administrative and Supervisory Committee, the restrictive operation of the tribunals subordinated to the High Court will also be extended until 31st July 2020.

It was also ordered that all the High Court benches should also seek to deal with 20 oldest ' regular/final category matters' pending on their respective boards by video conferencing. 

According to the court's registrar general's order of office, the Delhi High Court 's services will remain suspended until 31st July 2020, on similar terms that are currently in place.

The notification states that:

Around 9000 matters have been taken up by the High Court through videoconferencing from the beginning of lockdown till 10.7.2020. 1824 main cases and 7692 miscellaneous applications have been disposed of during this period. On the administrative side, more than 230 meetings have been held through videoconferencing.

After the inauguration of the online e-filing system in the high court on 13th June 2020, 10,480 lawyers and litigants in persons got themselves registered for e-filing.

It also said that the litigants and lawyers can also keep track of matters being heard via video conferencing on a particular day through the online display board and a provision has been put in place to enable public viewing of hearings.

Besides that, around 9,000 matters have been taken up by the high court through video conferencing from the beginning of the lockdown till 10th July 2020, and 1,824 main cases and 7,692 miscellaneous applications have been disposed of during this period.

Besides, the operation of the subordinate courts was also suspended until 31st July 2020. 

Such District and Sessions Courts must continue to operate in a restrictive manner according to the current guidelines.
