HC Directs NUALS to consider Granting 100% Waiver on Fees for Gym & Bus Facility Until Resumption of Physical Classes

HC Directs NUALS to consider Granting 100% Waiver on Fees for Gym & Bus Facility Until Resumption of Physical Classes

A writ petition was filed by the students of the National University of Advanced Legal Studies (NUALS) for granting them 100% concession on Gym and bus fees during this pandemic. They were of the opinion that in this pandemic the families are already undergoing financial problems and the institution is asking them to deposit fees permitting them to do so in installment. The students are not attending their physical classes and therefore those fees are not justified.

In response to the petition, a learned Government Pleader on behalf of the respondent said that the council had already deducted fees for various activities like moot court fees, bus fees, electricity fees, etc and thus according to Section 20 of the National University of Advanced Legal Studies Act 2005, it is not possible to grant them more deduction.

But the Kerala High Court considering this situation of pandemic ordered the Executive Council of NUALS to provide 100% concession on Gym and bus fees and directed the university to make a decision as soon as possible within 15 days.
