High Court dismisses petition of Woman seeking protection of life and Liberty

A woman who alleged traveled from Rajasthan to Haryana during the lockdown to tie the knot with her lover, recently petitioned before the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking protection of life and liberty on 11th May 2020.

She sought for the said safeguards for herself and her husband. However, her plea found little favor from the High Court.

Appearing before the Bench of Justice Manoj Bajaj through videoconferencing, the petitioners counsel stated that she made a journey to Nuh in Haryana on 20th April 2020 to reach the groom in Rajasthan and that their marriage was solemnized on 25th April 2020.

Petition dismissed for lack of reasonable grounds:

In dismissing the application, Justice Bajaj stated: It isn't disputed by the counsel that on April 20 and 25, the conditions of Rajasthan and Haryana were put under lockdown so as to forestall the spread of global pandemic Covid-19. He was unable to perform the essential consents conceded by the respected states to the petitioner to perform the marriage. Aside from this, he can't present in before the bench, the mode and way of the threatened and danger supposedly executed by the respondents, who live in Rajasthan,"

Dismissing the petition, Justice Bajaj further noted the state counsels contention that the petitioner was already married and had not yet divorced her first husband.
