Justice Ramasubramanian appointed as NHRC chief

NEW DELHI: Former Supreme Court V Ramasubramanian has been appointed as the new chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission.

Justice V Ramasubramanian Takes Over as NHRC Chairperson: Key Appointments Announced

The post of NHRC chairperson had been lying vacant since Justice Arun Kumar Mishra, former SC judge completed his tenure on June 1.

According to a notification, President appointed Justice Ramasubramanian, as the Chairperson, and Priyank Kanoongo and Dr Justice Bidyut Ranjan Sarangi, former judge, as the Members of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).

National Human Rights Commission Welcomes New Leadership with Justice Ramasubramanian at the Helm

Justice Ramasubramanian was the judge of Supreme Court between September 23, 2019 to June 29, 2023.

Earlier, there were reports that the Centre was likely to nominate former Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud as the NHRC chief but he has denied it.
