Karnataka High court refuses request to allow senior citizens to cast votes using postal ballots

The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday (March 22, 2021) refused a request which sought for allowing all senior residents to cast votes through postal ballots.

A division seat of Chief Justice Abhay Oka and Justice Suraj Govindaraj, while excusing the PIL documented by Advocate Ramesh Naik L, said, "It isn't for the writ court to give a mandamus coordinating that all senior residents be allowed to practice their establishment through postal voting form."

"Holding of races for Lok Sabha is an intense business, it's a gigantic exercise embraced by the Political decision Commission of India," the Court stated in the request.

The applicant additionally appealed to the election commission for separate queues looking for senior residents at surveying corners.

Declining help, the court said, "Right off the bat a writ of mandamus can't be given guiding respondents to outline a legal principle."

The court further added, "As far as providing facilities to senior citizens at polling booths is concerned , it goes without saying that whenever, SEC or EC conducts election, necessary facilities should be provided to senior citizens to avoid any inconvenience to them and to ensure that they are not required to wait in a long queue. We are sure that the SEC and EC are conscious of the issues faced by the senior citizens and they are bound to take necessary measures on that behalf."
