Karnataka High Court Green Signals ‘Doorstep School’ Project of BBMP for Destitute Children

The Karnataka High Court on Thursday (April 8, 2021) gave a thumbs up to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to start the Doorstep Schools (mobile schools) in Bengaluru city for destitute children.

A division bench of Justice Abhay Oka and Justice Suraj Govindraj said that the authorities should ensure that the norms and guidelines regarding social distancing and wearing of face masks are discretely followed.

Advocate Sreenidhi V appearing for the corporation submitted a memo to the court giving details of the schools. It is stated in the memo that doorstep school will be started immediately in Doddagollara Hatti and Hosakerehalli (Rajarajeshwari Nagar Zone.) Each bus can accommodate up to 10-15 children, provided social distancing and proper norms are maintained. Each bus is supposed to have two teachers and one helper.

Further, the bus will contain a whiteboard and the basic things required in a classroom. The children will also be provided with mid-day meal and snacks. The bus will contain disposable water cans and use and throw cups. The timings of the school will be between 11:00 am to 01:00 pm.
