Kejriwal eating mangoes sweets and having tea with sugar ED tells court

NEW DELHI: The Enforcement Directorate on Thursday told court here that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been deliberately eating mangoes, and sweets and having tea with sugar in Tihar Jail, despite having type II diabetes to spike his sugar level and to create grounds for his bail.

The agency also contested before Special Judge Kaveri Baweja an application by the AAP convenor for doctor consultations thrice a week due to rising sugar levels.

The person who is claiming to have high diabetes, is having mangoes, sweets and aloo Puri regularly, and having tea with sugar. This is all the basis for seeking bail, Special public prosecutor Zoheb Hossain said opposing the plea.

Advocate Vivek Jain, appearing Kejriwal, objected to the agency's submission saying the counsel for the ED was playing by the gallery and was making statements for media consumption.

He also informed the court that Kejriwal was withdrawing the application and would file a better one.

The court, however, sought a medical report from jail authorities on Kejriwals diet and posted the matter for consideration on Friday.

Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21. He is currently under the judicial custody. The ED had claimed he is the kingpin and main conspirator in the liquor policy scam case. It alleged he received Rs 100 Cr for Goa polls from the South Lobby.

On April 15, the court had issued notice to the Enforcement Directorate on a petition filed by Delhi Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal against the Delhi High Court's judgment upholding his arrest and remand in the 2022 liquor policy scam case.

The court, however, declined to allow his plea for hearing on a short date.
