[LAVANYA CASE] SC issues notice on plea by Tamil Nadu DGP challenging Madras HC order [LIVE UPDATES]

Supreme Court issues notice on plea by Tamil Nadu DGP challenging Madras High Court order directing CBI probe in to the suicide of Thanjavur girl student. Investigation, however, to continue as per HC order.

Tamil Nadu appeal against Madras HC order transferring probe in Lavanya suicide matter to CBI: Supreme Court says CBI probe to continue.

Bench: Issue notice returnable in 4 weeks. Counter affidavit 2 weeks and rejoinder if any within 2 weeks. In the meanwhile investigation in terms of impugned order will continue.

SC asks Tamil Nadu government not to make it a "prestige issue" by opposing HC order on CBI probe and hand over the evidence collected by state police to CBI.

CBI probe into Lavanya case will go on, directs the Supreme Court as it asks the Tamil Nadu Govt not to make it a prestige issue & hand over all papers to the CBI.

The agency needs to also probe the allegations of forced conversion.
