Madras HC Allows Karunanidhi’s Burial at Marina Beach

The Madras High Court on Wednesday, August 8th, 2018 has allowed DMK president and five-time Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu – M Karunanidhi to be laid to rest on Marina beach.
The order has been pronounced on an urgent plea filed by DMK lawyers at 10:30 PM on Tuesday after AIDMK government announced its inability to allot space near Anna Samadhi (memorial of on his mentor C N Annadurai) on Marina beach. Further, the High Court bench comprising of Acting Chief Justice Huluvadi G Ramesh and Justice S S Sundar dismissed all the pending petitions challenging burials on the Marina beach.

The Madras High Court in a recent judge mentordered compensation of ₹8 lakh (along with 6% interest) to the family of a woman who died in the year 2014 as she was traveling in an EMU."Only in the event of a criminal act or self-inflicted injury with an intention can be attributed against the victim as contemplated under Section 124(A) of the Railways Act.
