MCD seals 10 dairies for violation of laws after Delhi HC rap

New Delhi: After receiving a rap from the Delhi High Court a week ago, about its intentions to act against erring milk dairies, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) have sealed 10 illegal dairies in the capital, according to reports.

The authorities took these steps after it found violations in a survey it had undertaken in the directions of the High Court.

Reports by a Committee formed for this purpose had informed the High Court of various violations. Therefore, the Court had ordered a survey.

Inter alia, the report had summarised the situation as widespread misuse of allocated plots for non-dairy purposes, unauthorised construction, lack of licenses in current dairies, cramped and unhygienic conditions and rampant cruelty on cattle, including calves.

The agencies are required to submit the survey report by July 12.

In the survey conducted across 11 dairy colonies of Ghogha, Goyla, Nagli Sakrawati, Kakrola, Shahbad, Madanpur Khadar, Jharoda, Bhalswa, Ghazipur, Gharoli and Masoodpur, 10 dairies were sealed and several others served notices.
