Madhya Pradesh High Court Ruling on Forced RSS Participation in Government Colleges
Justice Vivek Agarwal heard the case, which involved serious allegations of coercion and threats at a government educational institution.
The court considered a writ petition filed by Dr. Ramjas Choudhary, a Guest Faculty (Commerce) at Government Arts and Commerce College, Majhauli, District Sidhi. The court noted, “The petitioner contends that he is being compelled by the college authorities to participate in activities of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.”
Court Orders Investigation into Alleged Coercion and Threats at MP College
Highlighting the severity of the allegations, the court observed, “It is submitted that the ideology of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh does not align with that of the petitioner, and when he refuses to comply, he is subjected to beatings and threats. The threat to his life is imminent.”
The court also acknowledged the petitioner’s previous attempts to seek redress, stating, “He has already lodged complaints with the Superintendent of Police, Sidhi, as well as the concerned Town Inspector, but no action has been taken.”
In response, the State’s representative, Government Advocate V.S. Choudhary, provided an undertaking that the Superintendent of Police, Sidhi, would examine the complaints and address any real threat perception within seven days of receiving the court order.
Based on this undertaking, the court disposed of the petition without commenting on the merits of the petitioner’s claims.
The petitioner was represented by Senior Counsel Rameshwar Singh Thakur, assisted by V.P. Shah, while Deputy Advocate General Yash Soni appeared for the State of Madhya Pradesh.
