NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Thursday deferred to Thursday July 18 its hearing on a batch of pleas seeking a direction to cancel NEET-UG 24 exam held on May 5.
A bench led by Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud and comprising Justices J B Pardiwala and Manoj Misra noted that some of the parties haven't received the affidavits filed by the Centre and the National Testing Agency and also that they need to go through the affidavits.
The court also noted the petitioners also required time to file their responses to the affidavits.
In its affidavit, the Centre informed court that data analytics undertaken by IIT Madras upon its request showed no mass malpractice in the exam. The NTA, also made the similar claim, suggesting no mass malpractice.
It also said that the video showing NEET paper peak In Telegram app was fake.
The NEET UG was held on May 5 and its results were declared on June 4. The test is held annually for admission to undergraduate courses in government and private medical colleges across the country.
The court is at present in seisin of a batch of petitions raising the issue of paper leakage as reported by Delhi, Gujarat and Bihar police. The petitioners, including educationist and student candidates sought a direction for reconduct of the examinations.
On July 8, the court sought to know the extent of leakage to decide if the retest should be ordered in the matter, even as the Centre and NTA maintained 23 lakhs students, who appeared in the examination, should not be made to suffer the agony of reappearing in the test.
