Noida CEO Ritu Maheshwari Contempt Matter

Supreme Court is hearing plea by NOIDA CEO & IAS Officer Ritu Maheshwari challenging Allahabad High Courts order issuing non-bailable warrant against her after she failed to appear in a contempt case.

Sr Adv Vikas Singh for contempt petitioner before HC

CJI: the way in which the court has. Mr Singh,  How many cases youre appearing in court. Suppose youre appearing your counsel would say my senior is coming. This is not the way!

Singh: In HC roster had changed, the HC isnt even hearing this matter. Let her appear before HC otherwise contempt jurisdiction would close for all times to come.

Bench- let us hear and pass the order.

Bench: Issue notice. The NBW stayed by earlier order may be continued until further orders. List some time in July, for counter affidavit & Hearing

Counsel for Maheshwari: Weve put it on record that the order has been complied with, weve offered possession of land

CJI: This has become routine, weve seen in several cases, You acquire land, take away land, and dont pay compensation & theyve to go around courts. After reaching SC also you dont wanna follow orders?

Singh- in our case they took away our land in 1990 and not a single penny paid

CJI; better advise your client to comply.

Counsel: i will, we offered them compensation

CJI: 5 rs or 10 rs? Thats not way to comply.
