Ranveer Singh Files Unconditional Apology Affidavit in Karnataka High Court in Kantara Mimicry Row Court Indicates Disposal of Matter

Karnataka: Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh submitted a revised affidavit before the Karnataka High Court on Saturday, expressing an unconditional apology for his mimicry of a character from the film Kantara: Chapter 1 during a public event last year. Taking note of the affidavit, the court orally indicated that it would dispose of the matter.

The court was hearing Singh’s petition seeking quashing of an FIR registered against him in connection with the incident. Singh is alleged to have mimicked the role of actor Rishab Shetty in the film during the 56th International Film Festival of India, organised by the Government of Goa, and to have referred to the Chamundeshwari temple deity as a ‘female ghost’ during the event.

Senior Advocate Sajan Poovayya, appearing for Singh, submitted before Justice M. Nagaprasanna that the actor had filed an unconditional affidavit and had undertaken to visit the temple.

“I have filed an affidavit which is now unconditional… Please see the last paragraph; I have undertaken that I will go to the temple…” Poovayya submitted.

Complainant Prashant Methel responded that, for the petitioner’s side, it was merely a case, whereas for the complainant, it represented an entire belief system.

The court orally observed that this was the reason it had not stayed the FIR until that date. It further indicated that, while disposing of the matter, it would record that the actor would visit the temple within the next four weeks.

Case Details

  • Court: High Court of Karnataka
  • Judge: Justice M. Nagaprasanna
  • Date of Hearing: April 25, 2026
  • Petitioner’s Advocate: Senior Advocate Sajan Poovayya
  • Complainant: Prashant Methel
