SC declines urgent hearing to former AP CM Chandrababu Naidu

SC declines urgent hearing to former AP CM Chandrababu Naidu

AP CM Chandrababu Naidu for change in the procedure for VVPAT verification ahead of March 10 counting of votes in Assembly polls for five states. It had earlier indicated a hearing on the petition on Wednesday.

EC counsel Maninder Singh said on Naidus petition SC had laid down a process for VVPAT verification, which is being followed. Naidus review petition was dismissed by SC and now he wants to start a new procedure by filing another writ petition on the same issue, he said.

A bench headed by CJI N V Ramana said since the counting is on March 10, the SC cannot in the last minute interfere with a procedure, which was laid down by SC, and being followed by the EC.

SC said it would have to list the matter before an appropriate bench and which if satisfied with the relief sought by Naidu, would issue notice to seek ECs response. CJI said the matter would be heard only after counting process is over for Assembly polls.
