Supreme Court to hear a plea by Ashwini Upadhyay asking the court to issue directions to the Centre to come out with "effective and stringent" measures to control Hate Speech and rumour mongering in the country.

A bench of Justice AM Khanwilkar and Justice JB Pardiwala is hearing the plea.

Petitioner seeks issuance of notice.

Court: Why did you get this delinked? All this will be relevant for those cases also

AshwiniUpadhyay : This is different because ECI has also recommended the same thing

Court: The further directions that you are seeking can be heard with the connected matters, why was this delinked

AshwiniUpadhyay : Today I am seeking that Court issues notice to ECI

Court: this is not specific to ECI, also you have not made it a party, how can we issue notice.

Court: During election or otherwise, the regime should be same for hate speech..

Court: How is different from other matters? All these issues are overlapping

AshwiniUpadhyay : Rumour Mongering is more dangerous that hate speech milord.

Court: we dont think this is in anyway different... there is no need for multiplying litigation
