Supreme Court Ashwini Upadhyay Hindus in some States

SupremeCourt is hearing a plea filed by BJP leader Ashwini Upadhyay seeking minority status for Hindus in some States

State Counsel seeks a passover

J Kaul: What i don't get is why so long to take a stand. Diff stands don't help, must consult States where needed.

This was after Central government filed a fresh affidavit saying States should take call on this and it doesn't oppose the plea as such

Order: List on 30 August.

SG had said time needed for wide consultation with States.

SG: Some PILs are filed in related matters, where we cannot serve immediately but it goes in public domain.

SG says to one impleader they can approach Meghalaya govt when consulted.

SG: Meeting was held e me included where detailed discussion held. More needed.

Order adds that status report also to be filed before next hearing.

Counsel: I'm not seeking only minority status for Hindus, but challenging Commissions etc

J Kaul: You cannot say prayer one thing and petition another.

SG: As student of law, bothered by lack of...

SG:... cause of action and party being aggrieved.

Counsel: CM Himanta Biswas has said Assam seeks district wise minority status and will approach SC for this

SG: Can't mention names like this.

Bench; let the exercise go ahead.
