Supreme Court Centre can introduce a Uniform Education Code

Supreme Court to hear plea seeking direction as to whether the Centre can introduce a Uniform Education Code in harmonious construction of Articles 29-30 with Articles 14,15,19 of the Constitution of India.

Counsel appearing for union seeks a Passover.

Justice Kaul: By his very nature, it comes out in public before it is before us. If you want to consult then consult, Taking different stand doesn't help, if consultation is required then it must be done.

J Kaul: The first affidavit says the States have power then on the next affidavit that you say something else, and one more thing that before the affidavit reaches us it goes to the public domain.

SG Tushar Mehta: Some of the PILs are filed and it is immediately in the public domain.

Referring to the IA filed by an organisation from Meghalaya, the Court said that representation can be made to the competent authority. We cannot make parties and widen issue in the matter.

Advocate Upadhyay submitted that I'm not only seeking minority status for Hindus.

Court: Some religions may be in majority in one state and minority in other state, that has to be seen carefully.
