New Delhi: The apex court today dismissed a public interest litigation (PIL) challenging Charles Darwin's Theory of Evolution and Einstein's popular massenergy equivalence (E=MC) equation.
The PIL filed by one Raj Kumar came up before before a Bench of Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Sudhanshu Dhulia, according to media reports.
The Supreme Court told the petitioner that if he felt that the theory of evolution propounded by Charles Darwin, as well as the Theory of Relativity propounded by Albert Einstein are wrong, then the "Supreme Court has nothing to do", according to media reports.
What is Charles Darwin's Theory?
Its a theory of biological evolution developed by the English naturalist Charles Darwin (18091882) and others, stating that all species of organisms arise and develop through the natural selection of small, inherited variations that increase the individual's ability to compete, survive, and reproduce.
What is Einstein's equation of relativity?
The second theory, or rather the equation the petitioner questioned was the famous E equals MC squared, or E = mc2. The German-born physicist Albert Einsteins theory of special relativity expresses the fact that mass and energy are the same physical entity and can be changed into each other. In the equation, the increased relativistic mass (m) of a body times the speed of light squared (c2) is equal to the kinetic energy (E) of that body, Encyclopedia Britannica notes.
